Breed Specific Cuts in Orillia

We groom your dog to match their breed standard, not just what looks cute.

What's a Breed Cut?

A breed cut follows the official grooming standard for your dog's breed. Poodles get their classic continental or sporting clip. Schnauzers get that sharp furnishing on the legs and beard. Cocker spaniels get the feathered skirt and rounded head. It's not random styling - it's how the breed is supposed to look.

We've groomed hundreds of purebreds in Orillia and over to Barrie. You bring us a Westie, we know the hand-stripping technique. You bring us a Bichon, we know the rounded powder-puff finish. We don't guess. We follow the template that's been around for decades, whether you're showing your dog or just want them to look right.

Most Dog Grooming appointments can include a breed cut if you ask. We'll walk you through what's involved, how long it takes, and whether your dog's coat is in good enough shape to pull it off. Sometimes we need a Deshedding Treatment first if the undercoat is packed.

Which Breeds We Do

Poodles and doodles are our bread and butter. Standard poodle, miniature, toy - we do the full continental, the sporting clip, the lamb trim, whatever you want. Goldendoodles and labradoodles get a modified poodle cut or a teddy bear face, depending on what you like. We also handle schnauzers (giant, standard, mini), terriers (Scotties, Westies, Airedales, Yorkies), spaniels (Cocker, Springer), Shih Tzus, Lhasa Apsos, Maltese, and Bichons.

If your breed has a specific clip in the AKC or CKC standard, we can do it. We've done Portuguese Water Dogs, Soft Coated Wheatens, and even a few Bedlington Terriers. Bring a photo if you want, but we already know the cut. We also serve Gravenhurst and Washago, so if you're outside Orillia, we're still close.

How Long It Takes

A full breed cut takes 90 minutes to 3 hours depending on size, coat condition, and how complicated the style is. A mini schnauzer with a good coat might be done in 90 minutes. A standard poodle with a continental clip and hand scissoring can push 3 hours. We don't rush it. The furnishings, the topknot, the leg feathering - all of that takes time to get symmetrical.

If your dog hasn't been groomed in a while or the coat is matted, we'll let you know up front. Sometimes we have to do a shorter prep cut first, then grow it out for the full breed style. That's normal. We'd rather be honest than hack through a mess and call it a schnauzer cut.

Pricing

Breed cuts start around $90 for small breeds like a Yorkie or mini schnauzer. Medium dogs (Cocker spaniel, Westie) run $110 to $130. Large and giant breeds (standard poodle, Airedale) are $140 to $180, sometimes more if the coat needs a lot of hand work. Doodles fall somewhere in the middle depending on size - usually $100 to $150.

We include the bath, blow-dry, brush-out, and Nail Trimming in that price. Ear cleaning too. If you want add-ons like teeth brushing or a sanitary trim between full grooms, we can do that. We're not the cheapest groomer in Orillia, but we're the ones who know what a proper Bedlington arch is supposed to look like.

Book Your Breed Cut

Call us or book online. Let us know the breed and whether you want the traditional cut or a modified version. We'll ask about coat condition, last groom date, and any behaviour quirks. Most breed cuts need to be scheduled a week or two out because they take longer than a basic bath and tidy.

We're in Orillia and we also see clients from Oro-Medonte and Severn. If you've got a show coming up or you just want your poodle to look like a poodle, we'll get it done right. And if you've also got a Cat Grooming appointment for your Persian, we can double-book the same day.

Frequently asked questions

Can you do a breed cut on a mixed breed dog?

Sort of. If your dog is half poodle, we can do a poodle-style cut on them. If they're half schnauzer, we can give them the beard and leg furnishings. But a true breed cut only works if the coat type matches. A lab mix with short hair can't get a cocker spaniel feather trim - the hair just isn't there. We'll tell you what's realistic when you bring them in.

Do I need to bring a picture of the cut I want?

You can, but you don't have to. We already know the standard cuts for most breeds. If you want something specific - like a German trim on your poodle instead of a continental - just tell us. Photos help if you want a modified version or if your dog is a rare breed we don't see often.

How often does a breed cut need to be redone?

Every 6 to 8 weeks for most breeds. Poodles and schnauzers grow fast, so you'll see us every 6 weeks if you want to keep the shape tight. Terriers with hand-stripped coats can go 8 to 10 weeks. If you let it go longer, the cut grows out and we're basically starting over, which takes more time and costs more.
