Nail Trimming in Orillia

We clip your pet's nails quickly and safely so they can walk, run, and play without discomfort.

Why Regular Nail Trims Matter

Long nails hurt. They push into paw pads, change how your dog or cat walks, and can split or tear. You'll hear clicking on hardwood. Your pet might start limping or favouring one leg.

We trim nails every 3-4 weeks for most dogs and cats in Orillia. Active pets who run on pavement wear them down naturally and need less frequent trims. Indoor cats and small dogs usually need more help. If you're not sure when your pet last had a trim, bring them in and we'll take a look.

What Happens During a Nail Trim

We use sharp clippers designed for your pet's size. Big dogs get heavy-duty guillotine or scissor clippers. Cats and small dogs get smaller precision tools. We clip just the curved tip, staying clear of the quick (the blood vessel inside). Light-coloured nails are easy. Dark nails take more care because we can't see the quick, so we take smaller snips.

Most appointments take 10-15 minutes. We hold your pet gently but firmly, clip each nail, and file any rough edges if needed. If your dog or cat is anxious, we go slower and give breaks. Some pets do better if you stay in the room. Others relax more when you step out. We'll figure out what works.

Nail Trimming vs. Full Grooming

You don't need a full Dog Grooming or Cat Grooming session just to get nails done. We offer nail trims as a standalone service. Walk in, we clip, you're out the door. It's faster and cheaper than a bath and haircut.

That said, we do include nail trimming in every full groom. If your pet's due for a Breed Specific Cuts or Deshedding Treatment, we'll handle nails as part of that appointment. No need to book separately.

Serving Orillia and Nearby Communities

Critter Cove is right here in Orillia. We also see pets from Barrie, Gravenhurst, and the surrounding area. If you're driving in, parking's easy and we keep appointments on schedule so you're not waiting around.

Nail trims don't need an appointment, but calling ahead helps if you want a specific time slot. We're open six days a week and we move fast when it's just nails.

What to Expect on Price

A basic nail trim runs $15-$25 depending on your pet's size and temperament. Cats are usually on the lower end. Large dogs or pets who squirm a lot take more time and cost a bit more. If nails are extremely overgrown or we nick the quick and need to apply styptic powder, we'll let you know.

We don't upsell. If all you need is nails, that's all we do. If we notice something else (matted fur, ear infection smell, fleas), we'll mention it, but the choice is yours.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I get my dog's nails trimmed?

Most dogs need a trim every 3-4 weeks. If you hear clicking on hard floors, it's time. Active dogs who walk on pavement a lot might go 5-6 weeks. Tiny dogs and indoor pets usually need it more often because they don't wear nails down naturally.

What if my pet hates having their nails done?

We work with anxious pets every day. We go slow, use treats, and take breaks if needed. Some dogs and cats do better with a muzzle or towel wrap for safety. If your pet's truly aggressive or terrified, we'll be honest about whether we can do it safely or if your vet (with sedation) is a better option.

Can you trim dew claws too?

Yes. Dew claws don't touch the ground so they never wear down on their own. They curl and grow into the pad if ignored. We check and trim dew claws on every dog that has them, front and back legs.
